Picnic Hand Basket

A picnic basket packed with pretend fruit — 30 pieces in the set. The fruit comes apart, so your child cuts it on the board with the toy knife, serves it, presses it back together and starts again.

Why kids keep playing with it

• The fruit is familiar. Durian, mango, banana, balimbing and dragon fruit sit beside watermelon, melon, pineapple, strawberry, grapes and apple.
• Holding the fruit still and cutting it builds the pinch-and-hold grip a child needs later for a pencil.
• Not every fruit is a simple two-piece cut. The banana has three peel pieces around the flesh, and the durian opens into two shell halves and two pieces of flesh.
• The basket is the storage. Tidying up is one step, and it carries by the handle.
